Matt Nolan is a tongue and cheek stand up comedian who specialises in physical displays of desperation.
Matt has been performing since 2010 locally in Gloucestershire & Bristol. It's been an interesting ride for Matt, as his love for comedy really became apparent since University.
Matt began performing regularly at a Comedy Night set up at Bristol UWE, where he would pretty much improvise most of his act.
We spoke to Matt about what he thought about his act, asking him 'What is your style?'
"Erm, well I would think my style is absolutely absurd - I like the persona of looking lost and erratic! I believe that If i look like I don't know what i'm doing then the audience will wonder what is coming next, I like to keep them guessing"
Who influences you?
"My influences come from all over really. But if I had to pin down a few, I really have a huge heart for Eric Morecambe, Tommy Cooper and Norman Wisdom, now they were three troopers! More modern day influences are Lee Evans and Milton Jones, they both are pretty on it and spectacular to watch live. If I ever have a splash of what they've got I will be a happy man"
"I've always wanted to make people laugh, I'm a long shot from touching the surface so I'll plough on with my dream..."
So Matt then went on to create his comedy company called LAUGHING GAS. Laughing Gas has run various successful gigs locally. Two of which have been staged in Cheltenham's beautiful amateur Theatre, The Playhouse.
In 2010, Matt set up a new act night, showcasing ten performers in 90minutes in a local pub in Cheltenham. The success of this night led on to a bigger gig called 'Matt Nolan Live at The Playhouse' 2011, where four acts and Matt displayed gags all night for The Wallace and Gromit Appeal, in memory of friends who are no longer with Matt.
Riding on the success of 2011 Matt joined forces with his production team to appear again in 2012 in 'Matt Nolan Comes Again - Live at The Playhouse 2' Which supported a local campaign 'Ayllah-Beau has a right to eat' This helped raise some money for a local girl who has a condition called gastroparathesis - which means that Ayllah couldn't eat or drink. With a campaign set up to over turn the NHS's decision not to fit a pacemaker to allow Ayllah to eat, the show raised more awareness and eventually the NHS backed down due to over 8000 people supporting the cause. Matt is delighted that he could help in a small way, contributing to a better way of life - one of the proudest achievements of Laughing Gas so far.
All of us here at Laughing Gas, wish Ayllah a speedy recovery with the rest of her life. Matt has more plans and projects in the pipelines so keep a look out for more information of where you can catch Matt and his troops next.
Matt plans to go to The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013 with a scaled down show (Information to be released Jan 2013) He will be utilising his team very well to help market and create a spectacular show as he adores them,
"I have a great team who are worth working with every second of the day, many people never see the work that actually goes on. Right from my graphic designer to the stage manager - I love being around them all - they're all so inspiring and great people"
The 45 minute show promises to be full of relentless physical comedy, from a clown who doesn't want to let you down.

"Matt always brings the joke back round and makes the audience feel involved"
"His vision is on par with the professionals"
